Insurance problems and cures

What claims have you seen from Northeast storms?

GBW Insurance topped out with about 2% of our clients reporting claims on Flood Insurance, Homeowners Insurance for wind/falling branches damage, or Homeowners Insurance for backup of sewers and drains (water up through the sump pump for example). What have you seen?

  1. We’ve got neighbors with trees down. Some blocking driveways, some leaning on houses, some just down in yards. Some of that’s covered with home insurance, right?

    • For most Homeowners insurance policies, and we would need to check to be sure, when the tree hits house, that damage is covered and removal of the tree is covered. (You’ve still got a deductible.)
If it blocks access to the house or threatens it, removal should be covered. (Might have to debate with the insurance company whether there’s actually a threat.)
And most insurance policies would have minimal coverage if anything for a tree that was downed by wind and just sitting in the yard.
